RE: info on Hydro-Hot heating

Actually engine pre-heat only works when you tell it to. Comes in handy for starting diesel on cold days, a warm engine starts very quickly with little smoke. Circulation pump only runs when heater is running and a minute or so after shut down for safe cooling of the system. Much less battery drain than a propane furnace. Never run down the batteries on any of my coaches with hydro-hot. Best and most efficient system available in an RV today. Burn rate is less than 1/2 gal per hour. In very cold weather, I burn about 40-50 gallons in two months. This year in six months I've used about 10 gallons.

RE: Do you actually use the phone outlets in your coach?

I've stayed in many campgrounds that have "instant" on phones. Have used mine both summer and winter in the parks I stay in. When I get DSL service from the phone company, that's the best way to bring the service into the coach. This coach has 4 outlets inside and two outside. Most of the 09 units I've seen still have these connections.

RE: Would you Buy Newmar or Safari

Exactly, Safari belongs to Monaco and is a fine product. Both are good and hold their value about the same. You will be happy with either one, so chose the best deal for you and don't worry about what the others say. You got responses from Newmar owners and other brands. I had 2 Safari's and both were very good. Monaco stands behind their product as well as some and better than others.

RE: Fiesta Key KOA Avoid

My experience has been that KOA is no different than any other campground. There are good ones and bad ones. The is no magic to putting up a KOA sign and all of a sudden it's a bad place. IMHO, a lot of folks "bad mouth" KOA because they don't like KOA's policies, rates or their program. My personal experience has been that the KOA's I've worked at expected us to actually WORK for our pay and that was an issue for some workampers.

RE: Texas Trails in Pharr TX

Texas Trails is ok, nothing special one way or the other. Most of better parks won't take anything less than 3 months. Don't have to.
My park is sold out for next season and has a waiting list. The difference between Victoria Palms and Texas Trails is pretty big.

RE: Workamper Needed in Augusta/Gardiner Maine KOA

bdemattia, you hit the nail on the head. Some people just cruise the net looking to tell all of us how they want us to work. I'm West of you in NH and a lot of people work in the White Mountains just for their sites just to be here. There's something out here for everyone and some people seem to hate that!!! Summer in New England is great isn't it???

RE: Positions Filing?

Dianne, you go girl!!! If anyone can comment on these kinds of posts you can. I love how the Workamper "police" show up to tell us how "everyone" should work. Personally I could care less if everyone or no one works for wages. You hit the nail on the head when you say everyone has a different situation.

RE: Site Monitor/Night Watchman Needed

I had friends that did this for 3 years and loved it. Hanging out watching tv and doing crafts. No stress. Bigest problem is someone has to stay on site at all times. So no trips with both going out at once. Some time could be coordinated for things like Dr. appointment but that's it. They made a lot of money and didn't have to do anything.

RE: Confused

All of my experience with KOA has been positive. They have always done as promised. Winter of 2009 may be a little to far out to be lining up now. This time next year would be better. IMO

RE: interesting news

In general you won't find a lot of college grads working on the production floor of most manufacturers. These are jobs that are broken down to the lowest common denominator and are very repetitive. They don't require a lot of thought or personal initiative. Anyone with a little common sense and average motor skills can produce on a manufacturing line. Over the years with a booming economy the unions have been able to leverage the wages up to a level that is higher than most college professors or high school teachers and certainly higher than most middle management in high tech industries. Then when times get tough, the union workers want to keep the same high pay when the industry can no longer afford it. If companies and employee's would BOTH adjust to the changing economy, then perhaps some of these jobs could stay here. Never going to happen! If someone making $60 per hour in wages and benefits would accept a salary cut to $50 per hour, something might happen. However, they would rather lose the job and go to working in WalMart and complain about how they can't get a good job. There are no new jobs for a high school graduate that pays $60 per hour. Lots of $8 per hour jobs though.

RE: WINTER TEXANS BEWARE-4/11-UPDATE

I'm a Texan and in the Valley about 6 months of the year. Never heard of anything like this before. I have a lot of contacts in the Valley and I want to persue this. What town did this occur in or whas it DPS (highway patrol) and what was the date. As soon as I can get some info, I will post it here. Awaiting your reply.
I'll repeat the question. Please answer and I will follow up. Been over a week and the op has not answered, what's up?

RE: Too Early??????

I think 20-22 months early is probably to early for most campgrounds or volunteer postions. It is not to early to make some form of contact and perhaps "check in" every 5-6 months. Good luck.

RE: Photo Required

All of my workamping jobs for the past 7 years and four employers have asked for a photo. These and I believe most (note that I said most) workamping jobs require face to face with the paying customer. All of my jobs have had stict guidelines on appearance because of the customer contact. No long hair over the ears, no facial hair, no visible piercings or tatoo's. None of this is illegal (or at least no one has won any lawsuits that I know of) in these situations. If you are dealing with an employee base that is mobile and not in your area, how can you do your legal screening without requiring that all candidates drive to your location? Last years job working around kids required that we sign a release so they could search the sex offender background database. If you did not want to sign the release, you didn't have to, you also did not get the job. The best way I know of ending all of this is to never apply for one of these jobs. I'm guessing that they will still find enough folks that are willing to send in a photo.

RE: Beatiful Host Location!

No, not a workamping opportunity but a VOLUNTEER opportunity. Big difference. If you like to volunteer to help out the states/federal parks a great opportunity. If your looking to make a living, this is probably not for you.
